Disaccharidase activities in small intestinal mucosa of alloxan-diabetic mice.

چکیده
Increased activities of maltase and sucrase of small intestinal mucosa were found in alloxandiabetic mice. Adrenalectomy did not affect the activities of the enzymes in normal mice, but lowered those of alloxan-diabetic mice as well as blood sugar level. Administration of glucocorticoid raised the enzyme activities in normal mice, non-diabetic adrenalectomized mice and adrenalectomized al1oxan-diabetic mice. Positive correlation was noted between blood sugar level and the activities of both enzymes. Lactase activity did not undergo any change under these conditions. Adrenal hyperfunction seems to play an important role in the increase of these enzyme activities_ Significance of these findings in alloxan-diabetes was also discussed.

Peptide hydrolase activities of the mucosa of human small intestine.
Few studies have been published on peptide hydrolase activities of human small intestine mucosa. We developed methods to screen tissue extracts for such enzymes and to quantitate hydrolase activities for dipeptides containing the aromatic amino acid L-phenylalanine. The screening procedure indicated glycyl-L-proline hydrolase activity was reduced in biopsy specimens from patients with flattened...
متن کاملCdx2 specifies the differentiation of morphological as well as functional absorptive enterocytes of the small intestine.
Many transcription factors are involved in the molecular control of intestinal epithelial cell differentiation. We report in this study that the transcription factor Cdx2 functions to define absorptive enterocytes during intestinal epithelial differentiation. Cdx2 is expressed in the villi of the normal small intestine. Intestinal metaplasia, which expresses Cdx2, occurs as a pathological condi...
متن کاملEffect of pectin on formyl methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (FMLP)-injured intestinal mucosa of rat.
(1) We investigated the trophic effect of pectin on the intestinal mucosa injured by formyl methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (FMLP), a chemoattractant produced by the intestinal bacterial flora. (2) We first demonstrated that oral administration of FMLP for 7 days reduced the disaccharidase activities and increased the permeability, measured by fluorescein-isothiocyanate-conjugated dextran, of ra...
متن کاملImmunotherapeutic Effect of Spiramycin in Experimental Giardiasis.
Giardiasis is a major global cause of water borne diarrheal disease, which contributes greatly to the burden of malnutrition and malabsorption especially in children. There is a great demand for a new effective therapeutic agent against giardiasis that can be used safely during pregnancy, lactation and in infants. In the present study, the therapeutic effect of spiramycin as well as its immunom...
متن کاملIntestinal adaptation in diabetes: amino acid absorption.
LAL, DHEERAJ, AND HAROLD P. SCHEDL. Intestinal adaptation in diabetes: amino acid absorption. Am. J. Physiol. 227(4): 827-831. 1974.-Since the diabetic rat shows adaptations in intestinal hexose absorption, we studied amino acid absorption 5 and 12 days after induction of diabetes with alloxan or streptozotocin. We perfused the entire small intestine intraluminally with 5 mM amino acid solution...
